Brousseau Naftis & Massingill recently said goodbye to a longtime member of our family: Mica Cheshier retired after a 36-year career as a family law paralegal and five years at our firm.

Although nobody can replace Mica in our hearts, we are thrilled to welcome Crystal Guevara, who joined us as a paralegal in November, and Amy Morgan, who joined us in February.

“We are fortunate to attract incredible talent,” says name shareholder Matthew Naftis. “Mica brought with her decades of experience — and some great stories — and we will miss her. At the same time, we are excited to work with Crystal and Amy and look forward to a long and productive relationship with them both.”

A Long Career in Family Law

Mica joined BNM in 2016 after having worked for some of the highest-profile family lawyers in Dallas — lawyers known for their big-dollar clients and aggressive trial tactics.

“I learned so much working for them, and the experience was invaluable,” she said. “Still, coming to work at BNM was like a breath of fresh air. I really looked forward to coming to work everyday.”

Mica said the firm’s positive atmosphere was set from the top, by founder Maryann Brousseau, who passed away in October 2020.

“Maryann was very family-oriented and she wanted that for her employees too,” Mica said. “At the same time, she made sure that we took excellent care of our clients. And Matt (Naftis) and Elayna (Erick) have the same philosophy. They’re brilliant lawyers and wonderful advocates for their clients, but they’re also genuinely kind and caring people. They care about their clients and their quality of life after the lawsuit is over.”

Mica’s retirement plans include caring for her grandchildren (ages 9 and 5) two days a week and, once her husband retires, more travel. Their destination list includes Alaska, Israel, Europe, and the Northeastern U.S.
